Open gym is an opportunity for those thinking about trying out to learn more about EMMS cheer. Middle school cheer is very different from Little League and all-star cheer. This is a good time to try it out without the pressure of tryouts. Coach Wyatt may also provide some insider information about tryout material. What are the requirements? You must be passing 70% of all the classes that you are taking. Pretty much, this means that you can fail one class. You must also maintain 85% attendance. Coach Wyatt does hold cheerleaders to a higher standard. Because of this, cheerleaders will be held top more rigorous academic standards. You must also have a physical on file. What will tryouts look like? You will learn a dance and 2 chants throughout the week. You will also learn motions, jumps, and possibly stunting. Everything that you learn will be posted on the SportsYou app. On Thursday, you will be sent home with a sample scoresheet. On Saturday, you will tryout in pairs of two. There will be a series of judges who will score you. You will not personally know these judges and Coach Wyatt will not be a judge. At some point in the day, you will be able to contact home about what time you will need to be picked up. If you have any questions, please email laura.wyatt@mcdowell.k12.nc.us
