PGE Title 1 Parent and Family Engagement Policy

PLEASANT GARDENS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Title 1 Parent and Family Engagement Policy

The Title 1 program at Pleasant Gardens Elementary School believes that the education of children requires a cooperative effort between parents and the school. The educational achievement of children is greatly enhanced by the involvement of parents. This involvement includes understanding the child's strengths and needs, attending parent meetings and conferences, and working with the child at home.

Title 1 will conduct an annual meeting in the fall. The meeting will be held to inform parents of the school’s participation in the Title 1 program and to explain the rights of parents to be involved in planning, reviewing and improving the Title 1 program. In the event that we cannot meet in person, a virtual option will be provided.

Our school will have in place a parent-school compact/accountability agreement describing how parents, school staff, and students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement. This compact will be sent home with each child for parents and the child to review and sign. For instances of remote learning, students are required to be engaged in instruction and complete/return assignments (example: choice boards). The school will regularly communicate with parents about its expectations of them and the importance of the curriculum in the home (what parents can do at home to support their children’s learning.)

Title 1 staff will consult with individual parents of students. Parents will be kept informed of their child's progress through conferences, report cards, and progress reports. Parents will have access to their child’s grades through PowerSchool. Parents will be given the opportunity to have input concerning the program planned for their child, and students will be given opportunities to explain what they are learning in their classes. Parents will also be given the opportunity to provide input for next year.

Title 1 staff will plan and implement yearly parent activities. Activities may include workshops, parent and child events, guest speakers, and virtual events. Parents will be invited to visit the classrooms.

Parent representatives will advise the School Improvement Team on matters related to family-school relations.

We will, to the extent practical, provide opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports, required by Title 1 guidelines, in a language and format parents can understand.
