WESLEY CARPENTER

Math

Hello! My name is Mr. Wes Carpenter, and I have the privilege of teaching students who are preparing for life beyond high school. I truly enjoy working with juniors and seniors because they bring a unique blend of energy, resilience, and potential to the classroom. Many have overcome challenges to reach this point, and their determination inspires me daily. I find great purpose in helping them strengthen their academic foundation, rise to new challenges, and step confidently into the next chapter of their lives at McDowell High.

My journey into teaching began at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I earned degrees in Mathematics and Political Science. During my time there, I also met my wife, a native of Old Fort, NC. After graduation, we moved to McDowell County to pursue careers in education and have been proud to serve in local schools since the early 2000s.

My wife and I are blessed with three sons: one currently studying Construction Management in college, one a senior here at McDowell High, and one in middle school. Outside the classroom, I enjoy swimming at the YMCA, traveling with my family, and serving in our local church, where I have the privilege of mentoring teenagers.

I am deeply thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given in both family and career, and I look forward to working with students and families at McDowell High this year!
