Welcome to science! I am René McGovney and I have taught with McDowell County Schools for over 10 years. I have a degree in Chemistry, which originally brought me to McDowell County in 2002. Prior to teaching here, I was a chemist and taught HS math.  

I love teaching science and applying it to everyday life events. My passion is in advancing my students’ understanding of this world around us through the lens of science.  This is why you will find me teaching both Biology and Physical Science here at McDowell High School.
