I was first elected to the McDowell County Board of Education in December 1996 and have continued to serve representing the North Cove district. I have been a lifelong resident of the North Cove Community as a third generation dairy farmer. Our children and now grandchildren attend McDowell County Schools.

I am a fourth generation community servant. My great-grandfather was a county highway commissioner during the 1930's, my grandfather served on the school board in the 1950's, and my dad served as a county commissioner in the early 1980's.
