FUTURE READY IMPACT: McDowell County Schools Celebrates Student Success!

We are proud to recognize Garrett, a former McDowell High School graduate who successfully completed all required coursework in the Occupational Course of Study program. Throughout his time with us, Garrett excelled not only in the classroom but also within our school community.

Garrett has taken the next exciting step in his journey and is now enrolled in Western Carolina University's UP Program. Garrett will be headed to WCU in the fall. This incredible program offers a supportive, two-year, on-campus living and learning experience designed for college-aged individuals with intellectual disabilities. Its mission is to support students in transitioning from secondary school to adult life through opportunities in education, employment, and independent living.

With a selective cohort of up to 12 students, Garrett’s acceptance into the program is a testament to his hard work and determination.

We are truly thankful to have been part of Garrett’s educational journey and can’t wait to see all that he accomplishes next. Congratulations, Garrett—we are cheering you on every step of the way!
