Active Directory (AD)

Active Directory is network operating system. Staff and students use Active Directory to login to all Windows computers. AD is also used to authenticate with our Lightspeed Filter, Canvas LMS, and Edlio website.

Staff usernames are typical first initial and last name (mmouse).
Student usernames are their student number.

Password resets must be done by the Technology Department.

Google Apps for Education 

Google Apps for Education is Google's core suite of communication and collaboration applications that allow students to work from any device on documents and projects. This includes your MCS Gmail account.

Staff logins are typically lastname@mcdowell.k12.nc.us mouse@mcdowell.k12.nc.us

Student logins are typically firstname + last 4 of student number@mcsgmail.com mickey1971@mcsgmail.com

The IAM service is an identity management service. The goal of the IAM Service is for every student, teacher, staff member, parent or guardian, and school community member to have a single, unique username and password to access cloud-based learning resources in North Carolina. 

IAM will allow staff and students to login to PowerSchool, NCEES, SchoolNet.

Staff and students user names are their UID. The students UID is their student number. Q: How do I claim my account?

Q: How to I reset my password?
A: There is a forgot my password link on the IAM login page. However, if your email address is not in HRMS, it will not be in IAM, and you can not reset your password. Please see a member of the Technology Team or your Data Manager to reset your password?

Q: What if I don't remember the answers to my challenge questions?
A: Please see a member of the Technology Team or your Data Manager, they can reset your challenge questions.

Q: What do I do if I keep getting a single sign on error?
A: We have had the best luck following these steps:
1. Pick a browser that you you don't use very much. I use Chrome most of the day, so I picked Firefox.
2. Login in to IAM http://my.ncedcloud.org
3. Open an new tab and go to http://mcdowell.powerschool.com/teachers
4. Leave this up and and use your main browser for everything else.

Clever automates the secure transfer of student rosters to authorized parties. This enables continuously updated roster information in learning programs. Clever also offers single sign-on access for students and teachers via the Clever Portal.

Students and Staff should be able to login with the G Suite account or NCEdCloud account.
